DAISY-Player

If your eyesight deteriorates, you don’t have to give up books. Audiobooks, especially in the DAISY format, offer a real alternative.
DAISY stands for “Digital Accessible Information System” and refers to the standards and technologies developed for the new generation of digital audiobooks. The commonly used audio CDs in the commercial audiobook market are not suitable for blind and visually impaired people due to storage and navigation limitations. That’s why a new digital medium was developed — DAISY.
A DAISY CD can hold up to 40 hours of audiobooks or several shorter books, whereas a standard audio CD can only hold up to 80 minutes. With DAISY, the listener can navigate through the book like a real one: flipping pages, reading from the first to the last page, or simply jumping from chapter to chapter. Some books even allow searching by page or sentence. The number of hierarchical levels depends on the content of the book. For nonfiction works such as reference books or cookbooks, more search levels are offered than for novels.
A large selection of audiobooks in the DAISY format is available at audiobook libraries. Requirements and further information can be found here.
